As mentioned above on the Financial Page, we strongly recommend travel insurance. We accept no responsibility for any mishaps while staying at our house. Your reservation of our house is deemed an acknowledgement of these conditions. Quite apart from medical coverage, good travel insurance can cover you if at the last minute you are forced to cancel your trip. We do not give refunds of the rental payment within the 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the reserved rental.

Some travel insurances will fly you home if you have a medically related problem, send you the medication you left at home plus many other services. It is a good idea. Your travel agent will be happy to supply companies that offer such insurance. American Express offers some programs.

Despite the coverage some credit cards offer for care hire insurance coverage, actually collecting in the event of an accident can be tricky. I would recommend taking out at least the minimum coverage offered by the car rental company. The small village streets, lack of parking lots and some less than courteous drivers can, unfortunately, result in some scrapes. You can check with your auto insurance provider since some of them, depending on your coverage, may offer insurance for rental car situations. But do not assume they do without written confirmation from your agent.
